Fleshy Nose Surgery Complications – Dr. Sami
Regarding fleshy nose surgery, questions are being raised: are there potential complications? That is, does fleshy nose surgery have specific complications? And can you explain the potential complications of fleshy nose surgery?
Here, I must mention to my dear followers that if any surgery is performed fundamentally, with sufficient knowledge, capability, and experience by the surgeon—whether it is a bony nose, a fleshy nose, or any other type of nose—the chance and risk of complications are extremely low, and there is no room for fear. However, if this knowledge or experience is limited, naturally, more frequent and more insoluble complications can occur in fleshy noses.
Common Complications of Fleshy Nose After Surgery
Fibrosis under the nasal skin
One of the complications of fleshy nose surgery, and perhaps the most common one often observed in fleshy noses, is actually the formation of extra flesh and fibrosis under the nasal skin. In these conditions, the nose may develop a parrot-like tip, or its fleshiness may manifest in a worse way than before. This complication does not occur in the hands of a surgeon who knows how to perform rhinoplasty on a fleshy nose, but in the hands of a surgeon who does not have sufficient experience in fleshy nose surgery, it can be the most common complication.
Usually, these types of surgeries require revision surgery, but occasionally, there is a slim possibility that using medications such as Roaccutane and cortisone injections can help with this type of complication.
Leaving suture marks
Other complications that are milder can exist in fleshy nose surgery, which are not exclusive to inexperienced surgeons and can also occur in the hands of experienced surgeons. One of them is that in fleshy nose surgery, sutures must usually be used on the sides of the nose, which can sometimes cause the suture marks to remain somewhat longer. If, in this case, the surgeon has exercised sufficient precision and the patient has provided sufficient care to the sutures and correctly followed the surgeon’s instructions, the risk of this matter is also not very high, and usually, this complication can be greatly improved through actions such as peeling and, rarely, laser.
Nasal swelling settles later
Another complication that can be created in fleshy noses even by good surgeons is that the nasal swelling occurs with a delay. In such cases, the surgeon usually uses two methods: one is the use of Roaccutane medication, and in fewer cases, the use of cortisone injection in the nasal tip area. Both of these medications must be prescribed and used under medical supervision and by the surgeon themselves.
Eczema or Dermatitis
The next point relates to another complication, which is not something very specific: in the first days after surgery on fleshy noses that have oily skin, the patient’s skin under the tape may suffer from eczema or dermatitis. This usually manifests as red or purulent pimples, or inflamed and red skin, which reveals itself in an ugly way when the surgeon removes the tape and nasal splint. Usually, this complication shows itself as itching at its onset, and the patient usually notices there is a problem with the feeling of intense itching under the splint in the first 3 or 4 days after surgery.
An experienced surgeon who performs fleshy noses knows that unlike bony noses, where the tape is usually removed for the first time one week after surgery, in a fleshy nose, this should happen sooner, meaning 2 or 3 days after surgery. The nasal skin must be cleaned from the secretions and oil that have accumulated under the tape to prevent this from happening; because this eczema, as a result of skin reaction, microbial growth, and skin sensitivity or allergy to the tape in fleshy noses with oily skin, can easily manifest in the first three or four days.
A Few Important Recommendations for Fleshy Nose Surgery
Those who have a fleshy nose and want to undergo rhinoplasty must exercise extreme caution in choosing their nose surgeon and select the best fleshy nose surgeon to avoid the complications mentioned above. The best fleshy nose surgeon is actually someone who can provide an appropriate solution for large fleshy noses with thick skin so that the patient does not suffer from complications.
